I have been craving this more and more: finding natural ways to boost energy. In an age where so many things we do on a daily basis drains us of our energy, I’ve been finding myself wanting to be more intentional with my days and spend more time doing the things that boost my energy.
Anyone else?
There are so many distractions and stressors around us that negatively affect our energy levels but luckily most of them have natural remedies and ways to reduce their impact on our daily life.
It can be so easy and convenient to grab a cup of coffee, a candy bar, or an energy drink when you feel tired but their effects can quickly wear out soon after you consume them. These are a short term fix that can leave you feeling even more fatigued after.
Incorporating natural ways to boost your energy can keep you feeling refreshed and revitalized for longer, plus it’s better for your health.
A few tweaks to your daily routine can go a long way in keeping you energized the whole day, so I am going to share 10 natural ways to boost energy.
10 Natural Ways to Boost Energy
1. Eat breakfast
I struggled with this for years and always felt like I didn’t have the time or energy to make breakfast. Now I prepare my breakfast the night before which has helped me save time and has drastically reduced my cravings throughout the day.
When choosing what to eat for breakfast, make sure it is high-protein and high-fiber to provide your body with lasting energy.
2. Limit simple carbs
Carbohydrates are a great option for quick energy, however, consuming too many processed foods and added sugars results in unbalanced blood sugar levels, leaving you tired and hungry. Instead focus on complex carbs, like whole grains, as often as you can.
3. Get a good night sleep
Have you heard of revenge bedtime procrastination? It’s a real thing and many moms take part in it unknowingly.
This is how it goes: you wait until the kids have gone to bed so you can have some “me time” and you spend that time watching hours of TikTok videos or reading a great book. Instead of going to bed when you are tired, you make a conscious decision to stay up.
One of the best ways to have more energy is to make sure you are getting enough hours of sleep at night. If you are someone who scrolls their phone at night, try putting your phone in another room which helps improve your sleep quality and can even help you fall asleep faster.
4. Eat a nutritious diet
A nutritious diet consists of healthy fat, high fiber carbs and protein.
Here are a few blog posts that go into a lot of detail: herehere.
The food you eat on a daily basis can either provide your body with energy or drain it of energy. Food is one of the best ways to provide natural energy when you are intentional with what you’re eating. So make sure to check out the blog posts linked for lots of details and ideas.
5. Deep breathing
Taking 30 seconds 3-5 times a day to slow down and take deep breaths. This drastically increases energy and is also so good for your mental health. Practicing deep breathing helps in the moment by lowering your blood pressure and heart rate, and reducing stress.
6. Take a walk outside
You are doing a few things here. You are moving your body, getting some physical activity, you are going outside, breathing fresh air and getting out in nature. All of these things are energy boosters. My favorite time to walk is after a meal, usually after lunch when I need that midday energy kick.
7. Stay hydrated
Staying hydrated helps maintain your energy levels by keeping muscles energized. Plus, dehydration can show up as fatigue or low energy, so staying hydrated will help prevent that. In fact, even a little dehydration can affect your mood, energy levels and ability to think clearly so drinking enough water is really important!
My biggest tip here is to carry a water bottle and make it exciting to drink even when you don’t feel thirsty. I love adding berries, a splash of rose water, lemon, mint or oranges to my water bottles. It makes it feel like I am at a spa and I look forward to taking little sips throughout the day.
8. Connect with friends and family
Taking some time to refill your social battery goes a long way in boosting your energy. Of course this depends on the person you’re hanging out with so pay attention to how your energy feels after connecting with that person. I have friends and family that drain me of energy while others fill me with inspiration, motivation and thus more energy. Try to limit your time with those that make you feel bleh afterwards.
9. Establish a regular routine
You must take the time to establish a regular routine that allows for enough sleep, exercise, and proper nutrition while also nurturing your relationships and “me” time.
Something that works really well in my life and my clients’ lives is writing out an ideal week.
We break down the week into “theme days” which makes the week go by with more ease and calm while also being productive.
Here is an example of an energy boosting daily routine:
Energy Boosting Weekly Routine:
Monday: Meal prep day
Tuesday: laundry day + workout
Wednesday: workout
Thursday: Meal plan for next week + laundry day
Friday: Grocery shop + workout
Saturday: Spend time with family
Sunday: Spend time with family
Notice how each day has a specific goal and these goals typically align with your long term goals. For example, if your goal is to eat more fruits and vegetables each week then you would need to plan meals ahead of time and grocery shop accordingly. This process helps reduce stress and overwhelm and will give you so much energy by helping you feel good and feel accomplished.
10. Manage your emotions
Learning to manage your emotions so they are not controlling your every action is a life changer!
Take control of your emotions by learning to get in tune with your body and feeling your feelings. Journaling can drastically improve your life when you make it a part of your daily routine. It also helps you identify triggers and can even help you let go of the past. Once you start taking control of your emotions you take yourself out of impulse reactions which protects your energy.
That’s it for this week’s blog post. I hope it helps inspire you to take some action towards making your life full of energy 🙂
These tips for boosting your energy are simple changes you can do to your daily routine that can make the biggest difference. Even if you apply a few of these tips, you will notice a shift in your energy.
